WALWORTH COUNTY SUNDAY -- More than 1,000 classic cars, show trucks, motorcycles and special interest vehicles are expected to converge on the shores of Delavan Lake on Sunday, July 10, when The Cars Time Forgot car show takes over the grounds of Lake Lawn Resort in Delavan.

A special appearance by The Batmobile is one of the highlights. The caped crusader’s most famous mode of transportation is made possible by the Volo Auto Museum and the Delavan-Delavan Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.

WALWORTH COUNTY SUNDAY -- Frank Breneisen takes his art with him wherever he goes, and the retired art professor has made stops around the world, teaching in England on a Fulbright scholarship, building playgrounds in Kenya and exploring rural Romanian villages on foot.

Breneisen’s artistic talents are as varied as his travels: drawing, painting, print-making, photography and ceramics, but there isn’t a field he isn’t at least willing to try -- even architecture. After spending decades heading the art department at Morningside College in Iowa, Breneisen is back home in Fontana, where he spent his teenage years. He and his wife, Jennifer, remain involved in the community, living in a house he built himself, complete with a wide-ranging art collection and a basement studio, dubbed Frog Hollow Pottery.

WALWORTH COUNTY SUNDAY -- Madison Gruman is looking forward to showcasing her singing and dancing talents in front of a hometown crowd.

Gruman, 20, is a member of the Kids from Wisconsin, which is set to perform at 7 p.m. Friday, July 8, at Burlington High School.

BELOIT -- Fourth of July weekend will be filled with parades, ceremonies, cook-outs and fireworks.

And once again, the Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra will make sure that fireworks aren’t the only big noise that will be heard in the night sky.

The orchestra is set to host two Independence Day concerts during the three-day holiday weekend. The first concert will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 3, at Courthouse Park in Janesville, and the second concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 4, at Riverside Park in Beloit. In case of rain, the Beloit concert will be held at the Telfer Arena.

Summertime is playtime for adults at camp

Written by

WALWORTH COUNTY SUNDAY -- Maybe it’s been years since you’ve made s’mores or joined in a sing-along by an open campfire, practiced archery or worked on arts and crafts under a green spread of trees. But if you’re missing those carefree summertime days and nights, you can re-create them -- or start your own memories.

Adult summer camps are a growing business, with more than 800 camps in the United States and more than a million adults attending them in 2013, according to the marketing company Grownupcamps.com site.
